There is always a diverse range of events and activities on offer in Armidale, no matter what time of year – and this September there is an exciting line-up of music and theatre to enjoy!!

Sydney Comedy Festival:  Friday 9th September

VENUE: Hoskins Centre, The Armidale School (enter from Chapel Street).

TIME: 8.00-10.00pm.

COST: $32.50.

With a line-up of the best local and international comics, and showcasing some of the freshest emerging talents, this jam packed night of entertainment will ensure no end of belly laughs!  Following a huge SOLD OUT show in 2015, the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase will be bringing the Festival right to your doorstep. So … the Showcase Tour is back on the road! Call your friends and get your tickets – and head along to the funniest night of entertainment you will see all year! The Willie Wagtails @ McCrossins:  Saturday 24th September

VENUE: McCrossins Mill, Salisbury Street, Uralla.

TIME: 8.00pm.

The Willie Wagtails are a group of friends who play ocker jazz-folk music. They formed a few years ago in Melbourne, and since then they have been going from strength to strength and have performed at festivals like the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and the Tablelands Folk Festival in Cairns. For more information, email Andrew at Andrew.parker6@bigpond.com

Musica Viva Concert Series:  Saturday 17th September

VENUE: Town Hall, 127 Rusden Street.

TIME: 4.00pm.

The Seraphim Trio with Matt Dempsey (brilliant trumpet player): This unusual combination of instruments showcases surprising repertoire including the original version of the trumpet concerto by Hummel, originally scored for trumpet and piano trio. The group has also commissioned Australian composer James Ledger to arrange Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera Suite and four of Manuel de Falla’s (seven) Canciones Populares Españolas.

UNE Colleges’ Chamber Ensembles Concert:  Wednesday 14th September

VENUE: Lazenby Hall, University of New England.

TIME: 6.30-7.30pm.

Since 2013, when the Ensembles program was formed for all the Colleges’ serious musicians (strings, flutes, choir, jazz, soloists…), two concerts have been performed each year. Mid-year at Austin and in September at Lazenby Hall.

National Theatre Live: War Horse: Saturday 24th September

VENUE: Belgrave Twin Cinema, 137 Dumaresq Street.

TIME: morning (Saturday), afternoon (Sunday).

War Horse is based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel, and is adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford.  The play transports audiences from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. The story:  Vincent Machot is comfortable in his familiar life: his hairdressing salon, his cousin, his car and his too invasive mother. But when Vincent meets up with Rosalie Blum, a mysterious and lonely woman, he is sure that he has already met her. But where? Intrigued, he decides to follow her, hoping to learn more.
