There is always a diverse range of events and activities on offer in Armidale, no matter what time of year. There are a wide range of regular events, from music through art galleries, to a host of outdoor activities.  Every month there is also a host of special events – music, exhibitions, outdoor activities etc.

The following is a list of regular events happening in Armidale, so no matter what time of year you visit this vibrant city, or what your interests are, you are sure to be tempted to join in with the community – there is something for everyone.

FOR  MUSIC  &  DANCE  LOVERS  OF  ALL  AGES:

Music @ The Bowlo:  Fridays & Saturdays

Venue: Armidale City Bowling Club, 91-96 Dumaresq Street.

Time: 8.00pm.

Friday and Saturday nights feature fantastic live music, with a diverse range of musicians. Come along and enjoy some great music!  Hit the dance floor and dance the night away to your favourite songs.

Live music @ Red Grapevine:  Friday nights

Venue: Red Grapevine Restaurant, 113 Jessie Street.

Time: 8.00pm.

Dine at this fine dining Italian restaurant with their exciting and diverse line-up of live music.   An experience not to be missed!

Live Music @ McCrossin’s: 2nd Sunday each month

Venue: McCrossins Mill, Salisbury Street, Uralla.

Time: 3-00pm

Live Music @ The Stro:  Thursday nights

Venue: The Stro, Building C18, University of New England.

         (The Stro is a licensed and strictly 18+ venue)

Time: 9.00pm.

This is another venue which provides a variety of live music. Come along and have a great night – help ASPIRE do some amazing work and have a good time while you are at it.

Peter Allen music at the Newbie:  Friday nights

Venue: New England Hotel, Cnr Dangar and Beardy Streets.

Time: 6.00pm.

Take a trip down memory lane with the music of Peter Allen, played on Peter’s old piano.

Market Sunday Concert:  Last Sunday each month

Venue: Uniting Church, 114 Rusden Street.

Time: 12.30pm (tea and sausages available from 11.30am).

Concert is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

ART  GALLERIES  &  EXHIBITIONS:

Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place Exhibitions: Every day except Sundays

Venue: Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place, 96-104 Kentucky Street.

Time: 9.00am-4.00pm.

There is always a different exhibition, featuring various Aboriginal artists, on display at this venue. Various artists are showcased each month, making for rich and diverse exhibitions.

Armidale Art Gallery Exhibition:  Every day except Sundays

Venue: Armidale Art Gallery, 168 Beardy St Mall (upstairs – adjacent Carr’s NewsXpress).

Time: 10.00am-4.00pm.

This gallery features works from the large number of very talented local artists. The works include everything from paintings, photography, ceramics, sculpture – and everything in between!

NERAM Exhibitions Programme:  Every day except Mondays

Venue: New England Regional Art Museum, 106-114 Kentucky Street.

The museum features and frequently changing exhibitions programme of with works from its own collections, travelling exhibitions curated by other galleries, and exhibitions of works from leading regional artists. They display at least one permanent collection exhibition at any one time.

IF  YOU  LOVE  CLASSICAL  MUSIC/ THEATRE/ FILM/ DANCE …

Musica Viva Concert Series:  3rd Saturday of the month

Venue: Town Hall, 127 Rusden Street.

Time: 4.00pm.

Cost: Varies

There is always an exciting line-up of classical music performed by incredibly talented musicians across the country.  These are performances not to be missed!

Film Festival:  First weekends of the month

Venue: Belgrave Twin Cinema, 137 Dumaresq Street.

Time: 7.30pm (Sunday).

Cost: $15.50 (adult), $13.50 (concession), $11.50 (child); $70 (adult), $60 (concession) – season ticket.

If you are a movie buff you will enjoy film festivals usually held at this cinema.

Armidale Dance Group:  1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month

Venue: Legacy House, 89 Faulkner Street.

Time: 7.30-11.00pm.

Cost: $9 per person. A ‘plate’ for supper would be appreciated.

Guyra Dance – Armidale Dance Group:  Last Saturday each month

Venue: Bill Wicks Gymnasium, Guyra Central School, Marne Street, Guyra.

Time: 7.30pm.

Cost: $8 per person.

A ‘plate’ to share for supper would be appreciated.  Monies raised go to CanAssist.

FOR  THOSE  WHO  PREFER  THE  OUTDOORS:

TAB  race meeting:  3rd Saturday each month

Venue: Armidale Racecourse, Barney Street.

Time: gates open 11.00am, first race approximately 1.00pm.

Price: $7.00 (adult), $5 (concession), free (under 16).

Seven-race TAB race meeting, tote and local bookmakers, full bar and catering facilities.

Armidale Park Run:  Saturdays

Time: every Saturday at 8am (7:45am arrival)

This is a FREE 5km running, jogging or walking event – a wonderful community event.

Anyone wishing to join in must register online and bring their printed barcode with them.

Armidale Birdwatching Group:  1st Sunday each month

Venue: Thalgarrah Environmenal Education Centre, Rockvale Road.

Time: 8.00am (depart Visitor Information Centre, 82 Marsh Street).

Saumarez Homestead Tours  :  Throughout the month

Venue: Saumarez Homestead, Saumarez Road (enter from New England Highway via   Armidale Airport).

Times: homestead tours 10.30am, 2.00pm and 3.30pm. Grounds open between 10.00am and 5.00pm. The Saumarez Café opens 10.00am to 4.00pm. Devonshire teas, lunches and other refreshments are available at theCafé.

Take a guided tour through the White family’s 30-room Edwardian mansion complete with original furnishings. Stroll through Mary White’s garden, with its Jocelyn Brown style cottage garden, the picking garden and the lawns. Visit outbuildings complete with 19th-century tools and equipment.

Saumarez Gardens & Farm:  Throughout the month

Venue: Gardens & Farm, Saumarez Road (enter from New England Highway via Armidale Airport).

Times: 10.00am-5.00pm.

Cost: $7 (adult), $5 (concession), $15 (family), National Trust members free.

When you visit Saumarez you will see a rural property little changed from the time when many families worked there, whose skills made the homestead almost self-sufficient. Most of the food was grown, harvested or slaughtered on the property. Transport was supplied by station-bred horses, shod from the on-site blacksmith’s shop.  Stroll through Mary White’s garden, with its cottage garden, the picking garden and lawns. In the main gardens at the front of the house our “Green Cathedral”, under a giant Chinese Elm, creates the perfect place for an outdoor wedding or function.

Venue: Curtis Park, adjacent Armidale Visitor Information Centre carpark (behind Hungry Jacks).

Time: 8.00am-1.00pm.
